RADIOACTIVITY FINAL CUT

Play Movie

This is a flash animation of how energy is produced inside of the sun and its journey outward towards earth. Our assignment was to animate an idea based on the concept of time. I like how it came out although I would make it a little longer if I had the opportunity. The information is sufficient but more detail could be included. I feel like it was anti-climactic (spelling?). Overall, however, it works.

I found this great website, dnatube.com, that hosts all kinds of scientific videos for FREE! My flash video is going to be a blend of vector graphic animation and real video footage and pictures. I think this will make it a more effective piece because vector graphic animation, by itself, would be rather weak in trying to communicate the immense process by which light travels to earth.

Traveling Light sketches

The process of light coming from the sun is an amazing process that starts with two single atoms of hydrogen. My flash video will show how this process works starting from the core of the sun (where fusion takes place) all the way to planet earth where its conducted through the magnetic poles and ultimately absorbed into the earth or reflected back into space. Way cool.

Flash Video Inspiration

Our new assignment is a flash video based on Time. I have always been a nerd for outer space and I find aesthetic inspiration from the science books i had in grade school. the illustrations are so cheesy but so informative. I would like to create my own kind of "science" graphic based on how light travels from the sun and out into space.

FINAL ADJUSTMENTS

So last night I was under the impression that our FINISHED websites were due for critique. Apparently I misunderstood that it was only an IN-PROGRESS critique. I still have until next Wednesday to complete everything. It's kind of nice though because now I have everything on my website the way I want it and have extra time for small tweaking. I received some good feedback from Leon and friends about general layout and design. Something that I have learned in the process of designing for web is to sketch on paper FIRST. Web can be tricky by itself and if you throw in adjustments and only a vague idea of your direction, things can get way too complicated. It is interesting that design basics and general beginning process always stays the same even as technology changes.

LUNCH time! ... I mean LAUNCH time!

the countdown has ended. The website has launched. Technically the site is still under [minor] construction but definitely usable. Take a gander! The website of Kirk Pettinga

Free JavaScript

I discovered Dynamic Drive through my photo 2 class at the Wordpress Site. Dynamic Drive has all kinds of free JavaScript you can just copy and paste into your Dreamweaver files. Each one comes with specific instructions so its easy to do and makes your site look N-I-C-E.
